Why I Think Neymar is not Comparable to Novak Djokovic
The title of this blog sounds weird, right? Why am I comparing a tennis player to a soccer (football) player? Well I am trying to bring out an important analogy. In an era of tennis dominated by the great Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, Djokovic has fought extremely hard to insert himself into the big 3, having won 14 grand slams in total, just 3 shy of equaling Nadal’s record, and 6 shy of Federer’s 20 grand slams. Whenever the conversation of the greatest tennis player of all time is brought up, its fair to consider Djokovic to be among the all time greats, alongside Nadal and Federer.
Neymar is a very skillful and talented player. His ball handling capabilities and superb dribbling skills reminds me of the great Ronaldinho. In this day and age, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are considered the big 2 in soccer (football), having shared the previous 10 ballon d’or awards (soccer’s greatest individual award, similar to the most valuable player MVP in basketball or American football) evenly. Unlike Djokovic, Neymar has not been able to reach the level of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and time is definitely working against him due to potential competition from other rising stars such as Paulo Dybala and Kylian Mbappe. Neymar must work extremely hard to replicate the achievements of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in order for him to be considered among the all time greats in soccer (football).
