The feeling of satisfaction that a writer derives when someone actually reads their work and post feedback and comments about their work is what encouraged me to keep writing.

It’s been 16 months since I published my first article on medium. Even since then, I have published prolifically on diverse areas covering a wide variety of topics such as sports analytics, materials sciences, physics, online education, and personal growth.

Let’s now discuss 2 secrets to successful writing that all successful writers share.

2 Secrets for Successful Medium Writers

The secrets of successful writing could be gleaned from this quote from the Bible: The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” 2 Corinthians 9: 6, ESV Bible.

Just as in farming, “whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”

To be successful as a medium writer, you need to write prolifically. When I first joined medium, I was publishing one or two articles on a monthly basis. As of today, I publish 3 articles every week. I maintain a regular routine where I publish one article every Monday, one every Wednesday, and one every Friday. That way, I can publish 12 articles per month. I know some really successful writers that publish more than 20 articles per week. Some publish on a daily basis. Writing requires time, critical thinking, and lots of energy. At the moment, giving that I am not a full time writer, I can only sustain 12 articles per month.

Remember our quote: “whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” You can only reap bountifully as a farmer if you sow high-quality seeds.

To be successful as a writer, you do not only need to write prolifically, but you need to write high quality articles. There are thousands upon thousand of stories published on Medium everyday, your article has to be of high-quality in order for it to stand out. A high quality article has the advantage that the story can be selected for curation by Medium’s curators. Curated stories get more views as your articles get distributed by Medium and could be listed as a featured article. This would attract more viewers and readers, and more fans. For more information about this, see Medium’s Curation Guidelines.

In summary, we’ve discussed 2 important secrets for successful medium writers. To be successful you need to publish prolifically, and your articles have to be of high qualify. As you keep publishing consistently, your number of views, reads, fans, followers, and earnings will continue to increase.

Ever since my first article was published on medium some 16 months ago, writing has become an integral part of my life. Through my articles, I have shared my diverse experiences in physics, materials sciences, online education, data science, machine learning, and analytics with thousands of enthusiastic learners all over the world. My goal is to continue to improve myself as a writer and to keep pushing myself to write, and write, and write. My articles now receive a total monthly view of over 100,000. It would be fun to increase that number by a factor of 10.

Writing is fantastic and fun!
